Must ReadJun 12, 2010 Anybody who wants a career in the music industry should read this book. That's all that needs to be said.
Good for beginnersJun 07, 2010 It is a very good book for beginners. But if you are looking for more detailed and professional informaiton, then lookg for other sources. This is helpufl in giving you a broader picture and getting you to industry standards.
Warning!!! Out of date and not useful. Don't waste your money!!!May 02, 2010 This book assumes the reader is already part of a successful band, with agents, managers, lawyers and record companies all knocking down their doors in their eagerness to work for them.
Someone in that position can hire a competent attorney and doesn't need this book, which is also hopelessly out of date (where are the so-called revisions for the 21st century?).
Most of the people who buy this book will be hoping (based on the title and recommendations) that it will help a musician trying to get their original recordings online for all to see and clever ways of promoting and making money from music in the DIY fashion that most of us are now attempting. Most of us don't have a band, and don't have any of the resources this book takes for granted.
The book doesn't seem to address any of that whatsoever. Instead it rehashes the same old tired Business-ease and Lawyer talk I read in books like this 20 plus years ago. Now, when money is tight I especially regret having dropped cash on this doorstop of a book.
I wanted lists of great free websites to promote my music. I wanted advice on sending E-mails to fans. I wanted advice on ways to find creative people to help me make videos to promote my music online. Or inexpensive ways to create good videos by myself. I wanted Hints on safe, inexpensive (or free) ways of making my YouTube videos get noticed. I wanted detailed help on making a Facebook music page (the interface is a nightmare) and getting the fans to find me there instead of on my personal Facebook page (as they now do).
This book has NONE OF THOSE THINGS. It's a great book for a heavy metal band that already has thousands of rabid followers and is playing gigs in local clubs every week... in the year 1978!
Good resourceMar 28, 2010 A good book, I needed it for my Arts Management class, I good book to use a resource for aspiring or current musicians, lawyers, managers, agents, etc.
